Support Local Support a Dream and Your Community

Why Support Local Entrepreneurs?

In this post, I’m going to talk about some of the reasons why I go the extra mile to support local and hopefully by sharing them I’m encouraging you to do the same.

Firstly, local small and home-based businesses often give back to their community. As well, they sponsor local sports teams and donate to important causes and local charities. And, many make the effort to support other local businesses. Also, shopping locally can be better for the environment and these entrepreneurs help keep the local economy healthy. Bonus! I’m helping my neighbours’ dreams come true.

A Little Goes A Long Way

You don’t have to spend a lot to make a difference. Take these stickers, for example, a $6 purchase not only gets you a pretty cool Vancouver Island exclusive limited edition sticker set, but it also puts the power of your dollar to good use by supporting a local:

  • Artist $2.25
  • Student $.75
  • Print Shop $1.00
  • Animal Sanctuary $2.00

The stickers are designed, cut, and printed in Duncan BC minimizing the transportation carbon footprint.

VeeBeeArts Shop saves trees by utilizing only used materials for packaging and makes local deliveries via electric car.

Local Businesses Supporting Other Local Businesses

When businesses hire or purchase from other companies in their city or town, they’re helping to keep the local economy strong. For example, here a restaurant supports a locally owned business by having their t-shirts produced nearby.

I especially appreciate when locally owned shops sell locally made products. As a customer, I get to support two locals for the price of one 😉 Which again, is another great example of keeping money within the community.

So yeah, those are a few of my favourite things about shopping local. I hope that this helps encourage you to do the same 😉 Thanks for stopping by the I Love Cowichan blog. I’m grateful for your visit and hope to see you again soon.
